Welcome to Casagerania
The villa is ideally located for all kinds of activities from drinking in bars, eating out, walking in the mountains and on beaches, as well as visiting nearby towns and cities. I suggest you may like to consider some of the following:
* The Alhambra is approximately 50 minutes away. To visit this major tourist attraction, you must purchase your tickets in advance, since crowds are strictly controlled. This can be done by googling ‘Alhambra’ or following the link above.
* A visit to Granada should not be missed. To appreciate fully the charm of the city, travel late afternoon/early evening when the shops and bars are open after the siesta.
* Almunecar is 15 minutes away from the villa in one direction and Motril about the same distance in the other direction. Both places have historic centres, full of vibrant bars, restaurants and diverse shops. Almunecar is more of a tourist destination, whereas Motril is the ‘real Spain’.
* Salobrena is only 5 minutes from the villa and is a traditional Spanish working town. In the old city, there is a Moorish castle to visit and, and on the seafront, several beach bars.
* My favourite bar is in La Caleta, a small fishing village three to four minutes from the villa. Drive towards Salobrena, take the first turning on the right which brings you into the village. Jesus’s bar is beside the baker’s shop. Walk 50 metres beyond the bar and you will come to a picturesque harbour and a coastal footpath. You will walk past the only working sugar cane factory in Europe.
* One of the most highly recommended restaurants in the area is Casa Morgan. Drive through Almunecar (avoid the turning to the motorway) and, as you leave the town, you’ll see signs to Casa Morgan on the right hand side. Another good restaurant is Restaurant Reya on the seafront in Salobrena – drive to the seafront, turn left and it is at the far end of the beach.
* For guests who enjoy walking, walk outside the front door, turn right and, after 20 minutes, you are walking in open hillside. Further away, there are the Alpujarra mountains. Take the motorway to Granada and then the exit to Orgiva. Drive through this traditional small Spanish town, cross the river and take a sharp turning to the right. Then follow the signs to Capiliera. This is the highest mountain village in Spain. Go into any shop and you can buy maps for some spectacular circular walking routes. The village is to be explored but, for eating, drive to the far end of the village until you come to a sharp left turning bend and, on that bend, there is an archway through which there is an excellent view with a beautiful garden setting with spectacular mountain and valley views.
* There are plenty of local shops but, for supermarkets, there are: Mercadona (on the second exit road into Salobrena); Al Campo (drive towards Motril, take the first exit to Motril and this huge supermarket is on the right hand side after 500 metres); and Supersol in Salobrena (drive through the town towards the beach and it is on the left hand side).
